NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Newark police say an officer was injured when a fleeing car struck her unmarked vehicle and briefly pinned her.

The officer and her partner serve in the department’s special investigation division. They were probing reports of suspected drug sales in the area of Clinton and Chadwick avenues on Tuesday morning.

When the officers got out of their car near the intersection, authorities say the driver of another car quickly drove off and struck the police vehicle’s rear bumper. The officer was hurt when she was pinned between the police vehicle’s door and frame.

The officer was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries. Her name has not been released.
