DERRY, N.H. (AP) - Police are trying to find out who left a sick cat in a cardboard box at a Wal-Mart store in New Hampshire.

Police in Derry are studying surveillance video of a woman who put the box in a shopping cart in the entrance area and left.

The video shows the woman get out of a dark sedan late June 8, walk inside, get the cart, and place the box in it. She pushes the cart back inside before returning to the car. The driver didn’t get out.

Police said the cat appeared to be malnourished and poorly groomed. A veterinarian determined it was in such poor health that it needed to be euthanized.

Police are investigating the incident as an act of animal cruelty.
