In a flurry of deals before the 4 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline Monday afternoon, the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly acquired starting pitcher Yu Darvish and relief pitchers Tony Cingrani and Tony Watson.
A four-time All-Star, Darvish was having a down year with the Texas Rangers, going 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA.
In exchange for the Japanese right-hander, the Dodgers will reportedly be giving up three of their top 30 prospects (according to MLB.com’s rankings): Willie Calhoun, A.J. Alexy, and Brendon Davis.
In Cingrani and Watson, Los Angeles have added two veteran left-handed relievers from the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates, respectively.
Cingrani also comes to the Dodgers in the midst of pitching struggles, posting a 5.40 ERA so far this season. Watson, meanwhile, went 5-3 with a 3.66 ERA for the Pirates, converting 10 of 17 save opportunities.
These moves are a clear indication Los Angeles is going all in for a World Series this season. The Dodgers hold the best record in baseball, currently leading the NL West by 14 games with a 74-31 record.
