WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police say a Delaware officer exchanged gunfire with a robbery suspect during a pursuit, but neither was struck.
The chase happened Thursday evening after New Castle County Police say officers were dispatched to a home in the Westover Hills community for a robbery report.
Police said Friday that the victim was outside of her home when 23-year-old Jonathan Dryburgh took her purse, threatened her with a firearm and fled on foot.
An 11-year police veteran and Dryburgh exchanged gunfire during a chase, and Dryburgh was eventually taken into custody.
He was treated for a broken ankle. The officer wasn’t injured.
Dryburgh faces charges including attempted first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
Police have also arrested a 16-year-old and 19-year-old they say were involved in the robbery.
It wasn’t immediately clear if any had attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
