SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in Saratoga Springs have released the name of the woman who was killed in a house fire that left her husband with serious injuries.

Police in the upstate city say Friday that 52-year-old Susan Lewin died of smoke inhalation after the fire broke out around 10 a.m. Thursday. Officials say her 50-year-old husband Jason Lewin was taken to the burn unit at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was in critical condition.

A Virginia man staying at the nearby home of his girlfriend’s grandparents ran into the burning home to rescue Jason Lewin.

Police say investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and originated in the living room area of the two-story home.

Four of the couple’s eight dogs died in the blaze.
