PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police say a man suspected of fatally shooting a woman earlier in the day held police at bay for about seven hours before fatally shooting himself.

Police have yet to release the name of the 32-year-old homicide suspect who shot himself in a Germantown residence about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the man holed up there after they identified him as the gunman who fatally shot a 25-year-old woman several times outside her home about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Police traced the man to the Germantown residence and surrounded it about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and say he fired shots at officers who responded. No officers were wounded.

Police entered the home and found the man dead of a self-inflicted head wound after hearing a muffled gunshot from inside the house.
