HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man on a rented paddleboard who was pulled from the water in Southern California after a 25-minute search has died.
The search in Huntington Harbor Tuesday was hampered by murky water conditions but lifeguards eventually found the man, who was in critical condition. The 26-year-old died at a hospital about an hour later.
Huntington Beach Fire Capt. Steven Teasdale tells the Orange County Register (https://bit.ly/2tG2pTv) that the man did not know how to swim and was not using a personal flotation device. He was on a stand-up paddleboard when he fell off. A relative he was boarding with lost sight of the man and called authorities.
