LIBERTY, Maine (AP) - Maine State Police say a man escaped his car just before it burst into flames.

According to state police, the Fairfield man pulled over on state Route 3 in Liberty after experiencing engine trouble Thursday. Police say a fire erupted in the vehicle’s engine compartment after the man exited the car.

The man wasn’t hurt but state police say his car was a total loss.
