DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Barbara Rodriguez, a Florida native with experience covering state government in Iowa and Wisconsin, has been named Iowa state government reporter for The Associated Press.

Rodriguez covered the 2015 and 2016 Iowa legislative sessions and will assume the state government position that had been held by Catherine Lucey, who is shifting to the AP’s Washington bureau.

The 30-year-old Rodriguez grew up in Miami and graduated from Boston University in 2008. She began working for the AP in Raleigh, North Carolina, and has held positions in Chicago, Madison, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Ohio.



Rodriguez has worked in Des Moines since 2012.

She is a former vice president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
