LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lynne Westmore Bloom, who scaled to the top of a California tunnel to paint the “Pink Lady,” a beloved piece of guerrilla public art, has died
Her husband William Bloom tells the Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/2iGJPWm) that she died Friday in Encinitas at 81.
In 1966 Bloom spent nights clinging to the rocks above the Malibu Canyon tunnel painting a naked lady, 60 feet tall, clutching flowers. When it was unveiled, commuters stopped to gawk, news crews covered the spectacle, and the county hired workers to cover the piece.
Malibu residents still talk about the Pink Lady and a Facebook group roots for the return of the mural.
Her husband said Bloom loved the Pink Lady, but worried it overshadowed her other artwork, which was exhibited across the state.
