IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City fire officials have released the name of a man who died in an early morning house fire.
Officials say the early Sunday fire killed 72-year-old Richard Nicking Thomson. He was found in the home and was rushed to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was pronounced dead.
Firefighters were called to the home about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, and when crew arrived they found a fire burning in the basement and heavy smoke billowing through the home.
Another person escaped through a second-floor window.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
