PHOENIX (AP) - Police in Phoenix say a homeless man has died after being shot following a bicycle theft.

They say a homeless couple seeking refuge from the rain under an awning at a strip mall around 6 a.m. Sunday when the suspect approached them and demanded the man’s bike.

The man refused and the suspect reportedly shot him in the torso and took off on the BMX-style bike.



The woman wasn’t harmed and ran to a pay phone to call.

Police say the man was taken to a hospital with extremely critical injuries and he later died.

His name hasn’t been released.

Police say they have a description of the suspect and are searching for him. They say it’s now a homicide investigation.
