White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Tuesday that some Democrats visited with President Trump this week for a “relaxed time.”
“This is a president who’s said many times before he’s willing to work with Democrats, he wants to work with Democrats. He’s invited them to come to the White House on several occasions. Frankly, there were a few of them here last night,” Mrs. Sanders said on Fox News.
She said Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois and Joe Manchin of West Virginia were among the 35 lawmakers that visited on Monday night, saying they all watched a movie together. She didn’t elaborate on which movie they watched.
“My guess is they talked a little bit on taxes as well,” she added.
“[It’s] a nice, good thing to do as the end of the year closes out and a good time to help bring people together as we start another aggressive year next year,” Mrs. Sanders said.
She added that the administration is hopeful that gatherings like this will help both sides come together on issues they hope to tackle in the coming year.
