RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont State Board of Education has approved Rutland’s proposal to remain a stand-alone school district to preserve the town’s tradition of school choice.
A state education spokesman says the proposal was approved Wednesday after Rutland officials presented it. The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2xPbCew ) the proposal said Rutland had exhausted its possibilities with other school districts and remained isolated.
The town has 511 students and a relatively stable enrollment for the last eight years, unlike other school districts in Vermont.
Rutland Selectwoman Mary Ashcroft says the proposal allows the town to be an independent single town school district and maintain school choice, which was a priority in the proposal.
