UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA FIRES PROFESSOR WHO BLAMED HARVEY ON GOP VOTE

Sociology professor Kenneth L. Storey posted the tweet and two responses on Sunday before removing the entire thread and his profile photo. University spokesman Eric Cardenas said in a statement Tuesday that Storey was fired after the school weathered an outpouring of online outrage over the comments.



MISSISSIPPI MAN GUILTY IN FLORIDA COLD-CASE MURDER

Local news outlets report that 51-year-old Rodney Clark was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder. Authorities say 27-year-old Dana Fader was raped and strangled in the back seat of her car in Lake Worth in June 1987. Clark was arrested in 2012 after a national DNA database flagged him as a match for semen found on Fader’s dress.

PLAYER COLLAPSES, DIES DURING FOOTBALL PRACTICE IN FLORIDA

Stetson University officials said in a statement that 19-year-old Nicholas Adam Blakely collapsed during a Monday evening practice. The accounting major from Lawrenceville, Georgia, was the sidelines when he complained of not feeling well. He collapsed and was taken to Florida Hospital Deland, where he died.

PIT BULL KILLS ELDERLY DOG-SITTER AFTER ATTACKING DACHSHUND

Alicia Malagon was found unresponsive in a large pool of blood on Saturday in the kitchen of her daughter’s home in Fountain, in Florida’s panhandle. Calhoun County Sheriff’s officials said the 76-year-old woman had brought her small Dachshund with her to the home, and one of her daughter’s dogs started attacking the smaller dog. When Malagon tried to separate the two, the bigger dog bit her in several places, opening a large gash in her leg.

FLORIDA ZOO’S PENGUIN POPULATION INCREASES BY 5

Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has announced the additions of two chicks and three adults to its Magellanic penguin group. The first chick hatched on July 30 and another chick hatched Aug. 7. In a statement zoo officials said they’re pleased that both chicks are being parent-raised, especially since previous two chicks had to be hand-reared by zookeepers. Three adult penguins arrived at the zoo from the San Francisco Zoo.
