STOWE, Vt. (AP) - School districts in Vermont are looking to alternative solutions to address transportation needs.

WCAX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2ghdf1e ) Lamoille South Supervisory Union and Chittenden East Supervisory Union have contracted Trusty Transport Services. Owner Jessica Oszajca says the company focuses on providing transportation for students who attend alternative programs or experience homelessness.

Drivers working with the company are required to pass background checks, obtain a school bus license and complete a school bus clinic.

Oszajca says alternative school transportation is a service in demand throughout the state.

A shortage of bus drivers has put a strain on school transportation in many Vermont towns. Some districts have consolidated or eliminated routes altogether.
