YADKINVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Police say a North Carolina man broke into a home and stabbed his wife while she lay in bed with their son.

Yadkinville police say in a statement that early Sunday morning 29-year-old Bobby Justin Royal broke into his mother-in-law’s home. Royal’s wife had moved into the Yadkinville home with their 1-year-old son amid a marital separation.

Police say Royal entered the victim’s room and used a kitchen knife to stab her multiple times.

The victim suffered stab wounds to her face, neck, arms and legs. She was taken to a local hospital. The child suffered minor injuries.

Royal was arrested on several charges, including attempted murder and child abuse. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
