CENTEREACH, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a man who pointed a gun at the employees of a Long Island store was instead overpowered and held until authorities arrived.

Suffolk County police say the 45-year-old man went into the store on Middle Country Road in Centereach around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, displayed the shotgun and demanded money.

Authorities say the woman who is the store manager grabbed the shotgun while two other employees got the man down onto the ground.

Police took the man into custody and he was taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained during the struggle. No store workers were injured.

The man faces robbery and criminal possession of a controlled substance charges.
