NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - More than 100 dogs rescued from overcrowded shelter in Arizona hope to find new homes on the East Coast.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a plane carrying nearly 160 dogs from an overcrowded shelter in Phoenix, Arizona landed at Delaware’s New Castle County Airport on Sunday.

Volunteers from the Brandywine Valley SPCA and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center helped carry the dogs off the plane before taking them to shelters in New Castle and West Chester, Pennsylvania.

The dogs will get medical checkups before they’re put up for adoption.

Michele Boehmer is a Brandywine Valley SPCA volunteer. She says they hope to get the pups into “someone’s loving arms” as soon as possible.

The charity GreaterGood.org funded the flight for the dogs.
