CUMMING, Ga. (AP) - An 11-month-old girl shot during a suburban Atlanta man’s standoff with police has died.
Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy Doug Rainwater said that the girl died Thursday.
A three-hour standoff began Monday when a woman called deputies from a neighbor’s house and said her husband threatened her and her daughter with a gun.
Salman Ashraf, 34, barricaded himself inside his Cumming home. When deputies entered the house to place a phone after failing to communicate with the man, they heard a baby crying upstairs. Officers found Ashraf had shot himself and died. Ashraf’s infant daughter was wounded from a gunshot and hospitalized, but did not recover.
Rainwater says the mother is staying with family members.
