BARRE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Thunder Road Speedbowl has new owners.

The Barre race track announced Wednesday that former track champion Cris Michaud and local businessman Pat Malone had taken over day-to-day operations of the track from track founder Ken Squier and Tom Curley.

Squier founded the track in 1960. He sold it in the 1970s, but then took ownership with Curley in 1982.

In addition to its regular Thursday night events during the racing season, the quarter-mile Thunder Road is home to the Vermont Milk Bowl and hosts races of the American-Canadian Tour and Pro All Star Series

Michaud says he and Malone will work to carry on the Thunder Road tradition.

Thunder Road is scheduled to open its 58th season of competition on April 30.
