Actor Alec Baldwin is set to debut his impression of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during the Oct. 1 season premiere of “Saturday Night Live.”
Mr. Baldwin will fulfill the role, previously held by Darrell Hammond and Taran Killam, for the entire season, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
Mr. Hammond will remain with the show as its announcer and continue to appear on the show periodically. Mr. Killam’s contract was not picked up for another season, THR reported.
Executive producer Lorne Michaels made the decision to cast Mr. Baldwin as Mr. Trump over the summer, sources said. Mr. Baldwin reportedly signed on earlier this week and taped a promo that debuted on social media Wednesday, featuring Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton.
Mr. Baldwin, a close friend of Mr. Lorne, has guest-hosted “SNL” a record 16 times since his first appearance in 1990.
Actress Margot Robbie will host Saturday’s premiere episode, with the Weeknd as its musical guest, THR said.
