WAPANUCKA, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say a 22-year-old man was killed when his car struck a horse that was standing in the middle of a road.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the wreck happened early Thursday on State Highway 7 in Wapanucka in southern Oklahoma.

A preliminary report says Chance Talon Brooks of Bromide was driving east when he hit the horse. Brooks’ car then crashed into a tree.

The highway patrol says Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene.
