RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Police say a driver who crashed his car into the yard of a Richmond home over the weekend had been shot.

Local news outlets report the incident happened Saturday night.

Richmond police spokesman Capt. Emmett Williams says officers discovered the victim had suffered a gunshot wound prior to the crash.

The unidentified driver, who struck mailboxes and a tree, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officials said on Sunday that he is expected to recover.

Williams says there are no suspects or a known motive.
