NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a New York City bus driver has been arrested after his bus fatally struck and dragged a woman for about half a mile.

It happened Friday evening in the financial district. The Queens-bound bus stopped after someone on the street alerted tell the driver that someone was pinned under a rear wheel.

Police say the victim was struck several blocks earlier near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The driver remained on the scene. Police later charged him with failing to yield to a pedestrian.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver, 63-year-old Roger Weckworth, had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

The victim’s name wasn’t immediately released.
