TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say one person was killed and two others are under arrest for suspected drunk driving after two separate crashes closed down Interstate 5 for hours Friday morning in Tacoma.
KOMO reports ( https://bit.ly/2eBkiwP ) several other people were injured in the accidents.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Todd Bartolac said the accidents began before 3 a.m. when a driver slammed into a car on the left shoulder of I-5, causing that car to hit a third car. Then a fourth driver plowed into all three of the other cars. A passenger in that car was taken to the hospital and later died. The driver who caused the initial crash was arrested for investigation of DUI.
Authorities say a second crash nearby happened because the driver wasn’t paying attention and hit a cone in the construction area. The driver was also arrested for investigation of DUI.
