BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Warning residents about possible future surcharges, the Birmingham Water Works is asking customers to reduce their water usage because of the current drought.
Al.com (https://bit.ly/2euahEy ) reports that the utility has been providing 122 million gallons per day recently to customers across the city, about 17 million gallons more than the typical daily rate.
Birmingham is currently under a stage two drought watch, meaning residents should reduce outdoor watering to twice a week.
BWW Assistant General Manager of Operations and Technical Services Darryl Jones says the utility could have to activate a stage three warning Monday if water usage does not fall soon. Under such a stage, customers who exceed 110 percent of their normal water usage would be met with surcharges.
