NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The FBI says it has arrested a man accused of selling heroin to people who overdosed in the greater New Orleans area.

Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Sallet says in a news release that the agency began investigating after a recent spike of overdoses.

He says the New Orleans Violent Crime Task Force arrested 39-year-old Gary Hagan on Friday on a charge of distributing heroin. Betzebe says The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case



It was not clear whether Hagan has an attorney who could comment.

Online jail roster information indicated that he remained in jail Sunday, with bond set at $125,000 on the drug charge and $15,000 each on four counts of possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.
