Lou Gossett Jr., the 80-year-old Oscar-winning co-star of “An Officer and a Gentleman,” said Republican front-runner Donald Trump is “bringing the poisons out in the people.”
Mr. Gossett told The Washington Times that Mr. Trump is espousing an attitude of “This is ours and you can’t have it. It’s injurious. We need togetherness now more than ever.”
Mr. Gossett said he believes that humans were put on this earth to “take care of the planet and one another and pass that on,” a message he feels has often become lost in politics and in entertainment.
The actor told The Times last month while promoting the faith-based film “The Reason” that Hollywood films are far too violent and that “kids are very affected by it. They’re affected by these kinds of movies.”
Mr. Gossett pointed to the prevalence of superhero movies aimed at teens and children for coarsening the culture overall.
“The responsibility in the entertainment industry — in music, in theater, in film and the written word — has to do with raising the bar as a human society,” he said. “We’re going for the money rather than the lessons.Â
“If we do that properly, all those negative things will disappear,” he said.
