It appears Hollywood bad boy Charlie Sheen isn’t “winning” over feminist detractors these days, according to the Daily Beast.
The former “Two and a Half Men” actor was recently named a condom pitchman for Swedish sex-toy manufacturer LELO, a move being met with ire by critics who cite the HIV-positive actor’s checkered history when it comes to treating women.
“[F]or many feminists, Sheen is not just a ’divisive choice’ but an unacceptable one, especially for a company like LELO,” the Daily Beast reported on Tuesday, recalling that Mr. Sheen has been the subject of “allegations of abuse from ex-wife Denise Richards, a temporary restraining order from [ex-wife Brooke] Mueller in 2011 [and] claims of abuse from adult film star Capri Anderson.”
On top of that, reports the Daily Beast, “Sheen has also insulted women who work in the sex industry, trashing “the sex workers he once hired” as “unsavory and insipid.”
“It’s a shame that a company which was founded on women’s pleasure, luxury, and quality has resorted to gimmicks and attention-grabbing controversy rather than quality,” Caitlin Murphy told the Daily Beast. Her personal website describes her as a “sexuality professional, writer, consultant and occasional visual artist currently residing in Philadelphia.”
On top of that, “the condom itself doesn’t seem all that ’revolutionary,’ ” Ms. Murphy said.
