TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A teen has been charged with vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment in connection with a car crash southeast of Tacoma that left her friend dead.
The News Tribune reports (https://goo.gl/PhPTB6 ) 19-year-old McKenzie Krakow of Bonney Lake was charged Tuesday.
Authorities say Krakow was driving over a hill in Bonney Lake Sept. 11 when she lost control and slammed into a sign before hitting a tree.
Passenger Mackenzie Rae Martin, 18, was killed in the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Krakow and a 16-year-old girl in the back seat were both wearing seat belts and suffered minor injuries.
Data from an air bag module shows the car accelerated from 63 mph to 80 mph in a 25 mph zone seconds before the air bags deployed.
