ABC resurrecting 3 classic game shows this fall; ‘$100,000 Pyramid’ a big success

ABC has opted to bring back three classic game shows and air them in a 3-hour block on Sunday evenings this fall, the Hollywood Reporter said today.

Pleased with the performance of “Match Game,” “Celebrity Family Feud” and “$100,000 Pyramid,” during the summer re-run season, the suits at the Disney-owned company made the announcement Thursday at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, according to the Reporter.

Of the three programs, “Pyramid,” hosted by Michael Strahan, has been the strongest in the ratings. Earlier this year, Mr. Strahan left his co-hosting gig at the network’s “Live! with Kelly and Michael” to take on a role at ABC’s “Good Morning America.” 

“Pyramid” is a revival of a game show entitled the “$10,000 Pyramid,” which originally aired on CBS in 1973 with Dick Clark as the host.

Lucky contestants in the 2016 version of the game will doubtless be glad network executives didn’t merely adjust for inflation when dusting off the classic game. The Nixon-era game’s $10,000 top prize would only amount to $54,287.84 in 2016 dollars, according to an online inflation calculator for the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
