November is “National Novel Writing Month” (Tweeted as #NaNoWriMo) or “National Non Fiction Writing Month” (#NaNonFiWriMo).
Writers and would-be wordsmiths all over the world have committed themselves to sitting down at their keyboards, blocking out distractions (as much as possible), and producing some text!
Some will make a start or even complete a novel they’ve been drafting for years. Others will get cracking on an important work of nonfiction they’ve intended to write. Either way, writers are making sure their family and friends know to keep the encouragement coming during the month of November.
Ok, so we don’t want to distract them from their writing … but in conjunction with this month’s emphasis on writing, we’ve assembled a fantastic lineup of interviews with bestselling authors, literary agents, publishers, editors, writing coaches, literary professors, and journalists.
In other words, we’ve interviewed a month’s worth of people who know all about the craft and business of writing.
Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during the month of November, we’ll publish a new video interview.
Today brings out the first interview, and we begin with a flourish in a conversation with Roy Peter Clark — also known as “America’s Writing Coach.” His bio reads:
“Roy has taught writing at every level—to school children and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors—for more than 30 years, and has spoken about the writer’s craft on The Oprah Winfrey Show, NPR and Today; at conferences from Singapore to Brazil; and at news organizations from The New York Times to the Sowetan in South Africa.”
Roy is the author of many books on writing. I own and love them all, both in print and also in audio (a wonderful way to get refresher lessons while on the road).
