ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a Georgia man is dead after getting caught in rough surf on the Alabama coast.

Orange Beach marine police say 36-year-old Tywan Barnes of Atlanta was visiting the beach with his fiancee when he got caught in a rip current Wednesday afternoon.

His body was found near the Perdido Beach Resort, where he first swam out.

Barnes was originally from Mobile.

Heavy rains have been falling in the area and winds are strong. The National Weather Service says there’s a high risk of strong rip currents that can quickly overcome swimmers.

Lifeguards are warning people to stay out of the water until the currents ease.
