PHOENIX (AP) - A Forest Service crew fighting the Slide Fire in northern Arizona spotted a small and possibly historic cabin while conducting a burnout operation in a steep side canyon.

Phoenix radio station KTAR (https://bit.ly/1kkAvoz) reports that the Coronado National Forest crew spotted the cabin while conducting burnout operations in the area of Oak Creek CAnyon.

The crew removed fuel and other debris from around the cabin and also placed a layer of protective fabric around the structure to protect it during burnout operations.

A log was removed from the cabin and sent to the University of Arizona for dating.
