LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Lottery Commission has approved a budget that projects $428 million in ticket sales for the next fiscal year - with more than $81 million to go toward college scholarships.
The commission’s budget includes about $12.5 million in sales from electronic monitor games that are set to begin in September, despite objections from some lawmakers.
At a meeting Wednesday, Director Bishop Woosley said the new budget is conservative and he expects the lottery to exceed those numbers. According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/RdEeYQ ), lottery ticket sales and net proceeds dropped in fiscal 2013, the first decrease since the games launched in 2009.
For the current fiscal year that ends June 30, the lottery expects to bring in $417 million in ticket sales that will fund $82.7 million in scholarships.
