BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - Bluefield Regional Medical Center’s chief executive officer has resigned.

Media outlets report the hospital didn’t specify why Bill Hawley stepped down after four years as CEO.

Hospital spokeswoman Becky Ritter says chief operating officer Michael Makosky will serve as interim CEO.

Last year, state regulators approved the hospital’s $5 million plan to upgrade its intensive and coronary units.
