IRVING, Texas (AP) - Retail gasoline prices in Texas increased by 2 cents a gallon this week ahead of the long Memorial Day weekend.
AAA Texas said Tuesday the statewide price at the pump rose to $3.45 a gallon. That’s 19 cents cheaper than the national average of $3.64 per gallon.
Regular unleaded is the least expensive in Amarillo, at $3.33. It’s highest in Dallas at $3.49 per gallon.
AAA says increases in retail demand due to warmer temperatures are helping to push wholesale prices upward. Also, the rise in demand is beginning to outpace increases in supply.
AAA forecasts 3 million Texans will travel at least 50 miles from home Thursday to Monday. The majority of them - about 2.6 million - will travel by automobile.
