Some of the expenses incurred in the search, from July 19 through Feb. 15, for new Ohio State University president Michael Drake, who assumes his duties on July 1:
- $14.88 in supplies for search committee meetings purchased at Target on Sept. 5.
- $75.69 for notepads purchased on Aug. 2.
- $223.36 for a welcome gift for Drake and his wife, Brenda Drake, on Jan. 10.
- $1,496.11 for a dinner at Columbus steakhouse Hyde Park for the presidential selection subcommittee on Jan. 11.
- $3,038.68 for lunch for the search committee’s inaugural meeting July 19.
- $35,646.96 for consulting services by retired Harvard education professor Richard Chait, whose duties included moderating the Aug. 30 symposium, billed on Sept. 4 and Jan. 11.
- $117,988.09 for one-day symposium on Aug. 30 titled “Who will lead America’s public universities in the 21st Century?” Expenses included $85,000 for a New York Times ad for the symposium; honoraria of $2,500 apiece for three speakers; and $2,990.50 to stream the event live.
- $186,713.90 for NetJets for flights to airports in Lincoln, Nebraska; Atlanta; and Santa Ana, California, in Orange County, for flights dating from Nov. 19 to Feb. 2.
- $231,291.78 for Dallas-based head-hunting firm R. William Funk & Associates, including a $200,000 basic fee and travel, support and administrative expenses, billed in increments from Sept. 15 to Feb. 15.
