ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Buncombe County’s board of commissioners has approved funding for the electronic music conference Moogfest.
The board agreed to provide $90,000 for the meeting in Asheville. The Asheville City Council voted last month to provide $40,000, plus support valued at $50,000.
Moogfest president Mike Adams told the board that the conference is expected to generate nearly $240,000 in taxes. Organizers say the meeting could have a $30 million economic impact in the area.
Organizers say the conference should result in 34,000 hotel room nights.
The music, arts, ideas and technology festival set is for April 23-27.
Republicans on the board of commissioners said it would be better if the organizers obtained corporate or private funding.
