RIVERDALE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a body found in a wooded area in south Riverdale is that of a child reported missing in Chicago over the weekend.

Chicago police news affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said Monday that authorities are conducting a death investigation for 1-year-old Amierah Roberson.

The girl’s body was found Sunday by a person walking in the suburban wooded area. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office determined the girl suffered injuries from an assault and ruled her death a homicide.

Police said Amierah was with an adult who briefly walked away earlier Sunday. When the person returned, the child was missing.

Sedevic said Chicago detectives, Riverdale police, Illinois State Police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the case. They are questioning the girl’s mother and her boyfriend.
