PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - An 18-year-old Providence man has pleaded guilty to three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon for his role in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl outside a Providence graduation party.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced Monday that Luis “Didi” Gonzalez also pleaded guilty to a count of conspiracy. Prosecutors dropped a murder charge because of his limited role in the incident and his agreement to testify against three other defendants charged with murder.

Under the plea agreement, Gonzalez will face a maximum of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced.

The shooting in June killed Aynis Vargas and injured three women.
