FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Frederick police have charged the mother of a toddler after the child died at a hospital under suspicious circumstances. The child’s father had been charged earlier in the girl’s death.

Twenty-one-year-old Stephanie Ramirez Williams was charged Monday with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police say officials were called to the home on Friday at 11:50 p.m. for a report of a 21-month-old child who was not breathing. The girl was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Police say an investigation into the girl’s death revealed suspicious circumstances, including visible marks and bruises on her body.

The girl’s father, 24-year-old Aubrey Williams, was charged with child abuse resulting in death and other offenses.
