EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The state has rejected a Lane County company’s effort to secure rights to draw water from the McKenzie River.
The Register-Guard newspaper reports (https://is.gd/79lisx ) the Willamette Water Co. sought 22 million gallons a day for potential sale to unspecified customers in the southern part of Lane County.
The State Water Resources Department formally rejected the request last week. The company headed by Greg and Jeffrey Demers of Veneta can appeal the decision to the board that oversees the agency or to the Oregon Court of Appeals.
An administrative law judge in April 2012 recommended that the state agency deny the company’s application, saying the request was improperly speculative.
