MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee man has pleaded guilty to killing his father and a family friend after prosecutors dropped other charges by reason of insanity.

The Jackson Sun reported (https://bit.ly/1nq15PO ) that 41-year-old Eric McAlister of Greenfield was sentenced to 25 years in state prison, but a judge requested he serve the time at the Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility.

McAlister had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the February 2012 deaths of 61-year-old David McAlister and 52-year-old Timothy Betts.

The charges were amended to second-degree murder before the guilty plea.

After McAlister was arrested, he went through several months of mental evaluations at the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute.
