CINCINNATI (AP) - A southwest Ohio man who prosecutors say killed a prostitute during an argument over money has avoided a life prison sentence.
The Cincinnati Enquirer (https://cin.ci/NaDkKG ) reports that a plea deal for 31-year-old Julian James called for 24 years in prison. He was sentenced Thursday in Hamilton County.
Prosecutors say James was upset that Janice Dawson wasn’t paying him the money he believed she owed him. He shot her once on Jan. 16, 2013, and left the body behind.
He was arrested hours later carrying the five-shot revolver that proved to be the gun used to kill Dawson.
James pleaded guilty to manslaughter and other charges as part of the agreement.
James apologized to Dawson’s family in court.
