SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois circuit court judge will join the bench of the Fifth District Appellate Court.

The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises newspapers reports (https://bit.ly/1d0wRZU ) S. Gene Schwarm will replace retiring Appellate Judge James M. Wexstten.

The 58-year-old from Mount Vernon is set to begin the new post next month in the district that covers 37 southern Illinois counties.



Schwarm spent 20 years as a resident circuit judge in the Fourth Judicial Circuit in Fayette County and has been elected chief judge of the circuit seven times.

Wexstten has been on the appeals court since 2007.
