BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York man has been found guilty of raping and murdering a 13-year-old girl.
A state Supreme Court jury in Buffalo returned the verdict against 21-year-old Darshawn Morris around noon on Friday during its second day of deliberations.
Morris was charged with killing Lanasha (lah-NAY’-shuh) Rollerson on Sept. 1. By the time her body was found two days later, her family had blanketed the neighborhood with missing person fliers in search of her.
Police say she had been stabbed more than 60 times and her body set on fire.
Morris’ attorney told jurors that Morris didn’t kill Lanasha. Morris testified he had sex with the girl and then helped dispose of her body after his cousin killed her.
Prosecutors said the evidence pointed to Morris.
