VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - Vancouver police say an officer shot and wounded an armed man early Thursday as police responded to a report of a large number of people fighting downtown.
When officers arrived at the scene about 1 a.m. they heard multiple gunshots and found a man with a minor gunshot wound to the foot.
Police were looking for the suspect in that shooting when they confronted the armed man. Police say he refused to put down his gun, and an officer shot him.
Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp says 21-year-old Darryl E. Humphrey Jr. of Portland, Ore., was treated at a hospital and later booked into jail for investigation of attempted murder and assault.
