PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - A 19-year-old from Florida’s Panhandle has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his role in the death of a man during a drug deal.

Katrari Jackson entered a no contest plea and was sentenced on Wednesday in Panama City. Judge Michael Overstreet ruled that the first 25 years are a minimum mandatory, meaning Jackson won’t be eligible for a reduced sentence before then.

The News Herald of Panama City (https://bit.ly/1kOSyE6 ) reports Jackson faced life in prison if found guilty of second-degree murder in the March 1, 2013 death of Christopher Purswell. A second man was shot in the face but survived.

Jackson’s trial was scheduled to start Monday.

The plea deal followed a deal co-defendant Damon Washington made last week in which he agreed to testify against Jackson.
